Building a foundation for a healthy, loving relationship is essential to forming and maintaining a bond with someone. Part of what a healthy relationship involves is communicating what you see for yourself and for the both of you in your partnership. Whether it’s a new relationship you’ve just entered or it’s been years you’ve been together, every couple has their challenges. But there’s good news around the corner! Working on building a healthy, loving relationship can be achieved with the following tips listed below!

Check them out!

14 Tips For Building A Healthy, Loving Relationship

1)Ā  Cook at Home Together

Research shows that eating in and preparing your own food is extremely beneficial to losing and maintaining weight. But you probably already know that.

Did you that studies also show that coupleā€™s you cook together on a regular basis have a better appreciation and bond for one another?

Make your love matter by showing it when you all cook together!

2) Weekly Date Nights

So now that youā€™ve been cooking together all week, isnā€™t it important to go out and treat yourselves to a special meal and/or movie?

Having weekly date nights (whether at home or otherwise) is important to maintain a healthy connection between you and your SO because it helps to strengthen intimacy and love for one another in the short AND long haul.

Getting dressed up and making time where just the two of you matter facilitates a loving lasting bond.

4) Get Healthy by Moving Together

Do you ever find yourself being so comfortable in your relationship that your both sitting on the couch staring at the screen while you Netflix & chill every night? All the sitting down thatā€™s being done is not good for your health or for your relationship.

How about being active together instead? Now Iā€™m not saying schedule all of your workouts with your SO because Iā€™m sure you both lead busy lives and you want to workout and get active when you feel like doing so.

What I am suggesting is to compromise and be active TOGETHER at least once/week. Youā€™ll both walk away more satisfied, energetic, and happy. And you can use all this new found energy on something else now!

4) Take Self-Care Dayā€™s

Yes, this is AS important in maintaining a healthy relationship with someone else as much as it is in having a healthy relationship with yourself.

When you are taken care of, you can better take care of someone else. And the best way to take care of yourself is by realizing this, knowing when you need a ā€œmeā€ day, and then taking it.

Itā€™s so critical in your own happiness as it is in your happiness as a couple and/or family.

This alone is one of the greatest tips for a healthy, loving relationship – I promise and swear by it!

5) Practice Mindfulness

Take as much time as you think you need to be mindful each and every day. This could be for 5 mins, 15 mins, or an hour.

Take the time you need to be more intentional and deliberate in the way in which you live your life. Taking a few deep breaths in silence can increase your connection even further.

This act doesnā€™t have to be done together necessarily but it is integral in having a long, happy and healthy relationship with your partner.

6) Be Present When In Each Otherā€™s Company

The best way to be present when youā€™re with one another is to put away your phones and provide one another with undivided attention no matter the activity (or inactivity).

Do not try to always multi-task and accomplish other things (even if theyā€™re just minor tasks that you can quickly do while your SO is talking to you) while your spending quality time with your partner.

Be aware that they know if you are actually present- mind, body, and soul, and when youā€™re just doing it to please them instead. Do it with intention. Be present with intention.

7) Have Daily Check-Ins

Make sure to ā€œcheck inā€ with one another at least once a day. And you can use which ever method feels most natural to you and your relationship.

So whether thatā€™s calling, texting, or physical contact (like touch), make sure that your partner knows that you care by SHOWING them that thatā€™s the case.

Do not assume that they already know! Actions speak louder, 10xā€™s louder, than words. Show them you care ā€“ THE MOST.

8) Play Games & Be Silly

Being playful and doing fun/silly things together is what makes a relationship fun, spontaneous (even if itā€™s planned!), and reaffirms the love you have for one another.

That person makes the most playful side of you come out and vice versa. Itā€™s something that can be celebrated and enjoyed at the same time as you play some monopoly, scrabble, or connect 4!

9) Save Up & Plan A Trip Together

Making arrangements and planning a trip that youā€™ve been wanting to go together for a while can be fun and exciting.

So saving up for a large goal, like a big vacation away, can add a bit of thrill to your otherwise regular routines.

10) Treat Your S.O. as You Would Your Friends

You tend to dump all the good, bad, and the ugly on your SO. You end up taking them for granted (like family) because you assume that theyā€™ll always be around and that theyā€™re basically ā€œstuck with you.ā€

But this isnā€™t the case. Sometimes itā€™s better to take a step back before you say or do something. Especially if you know that you would never do/say that same thing to a close friend because you know it would cross a particular line.

Give your partner the same benefit of the doubt ā€“ weā€™re all human and weā€™re all doing the best that we can. Appreciate, love, and respect them and never take each other for granted.

11) Listen to Be Heard

Listening goes both ways. You shouldnā€™t expect the other person to listen to you, your feelings, or even your day if you do not give them the same respect.

In order to be heard, you have to listen.

And active listening should be considered a talent because not everyone does it and those who do it, do not do it well. You need to practice it and thatā€™s normal.

But the point is is to give them your undivided attention not for yourself but because you love and respect them and they DESERVE to be heard as well.

12) Learn Their Love Language

Read the book ā€œThe 5 Love Languagesā€.

Understand by listening and watching what your SOā€™s love language is and not what you think their love language is. Know that your love language is probably different than thereā€™s and that thereā€™s nothing right or wrong about that.

The important thing is to understand how they need to be loved and not how YOU want to love them or how YOU would like to receive love yourself.

13) Participate in Charitable Activities

Being charitable and participating in altruistic acts and activities together bond you and your partner for life. Think about Bill and Melinda Gates.

What you do together to make this world a better place to live in, is no small task and says a lot of the relationship that you share with one another.

Find an organization that you both are passionate about and use your respective skills to further their mission or be the voice that they canā€™t be themselves. Itā€™ll help foster growth in your own relationship as well.

14) Do One New Thing Every Month

This one is SO important and I can not stress that enough! Sometimes you can get bored from all the mundane things that you do on a day to day basis.

This includes, waking up and going to work regularly, coming back and cooking dinner, watching netflix, and then falling asleep early only to repeat the same cycle in the AM.

So, make a plan to do a new activity together once/month ā€“ thatā€™s it! Just one new thing per month thatā€™ll get you out of the bed, excited to be alive and living your best life with the person who matters the most to you.

Youā€™ll make new memories, build on the old ones, and add to your joint traditions (with an element of surprise) along the way!

So now that you have the tips, letā€™s go and cultivate a stronger, healthy, loving relationship!
